Has feeling bad become your normal?

The saying, “I’m sick and tired of feeling sick and tired” has become the mantra for millions of people in America. So what can you do about it?
  1. Decide to do something about, NOW! Waiting for the next miracle drug to shed those unwanted pounds or give you energy or boost your sex drive? Well the bad news is “There’s no such thing”. Like they say, “Put your big boy/girl pants on” and do what you need to do.
  2. Get Help. We have to admit that sometimes we need help. Whether it’s getting a friend to go walking with you or joining a support/accountability group to asking a professional for help, we can’t always do it alone.
  3. Don’t be fooled. There are numerous “schemes” that appeal to our desires for weight-loss, more energy, thinking clearer, better sex, no more pain, or whatever. Do your homework and talk to people who have experienced success. Don’t just jump into something because it sounds good.
  4. Use some common sense. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. You just have to check out the claim. If someone says you can lose 15 pounds in one week doing this or that. Ask a lot of questions. Most healthy weight loss is 2-4 pounds per week. That would be a challenge for even the most aggressive “Biggest Loser” contestant.
  5. Go Natural.  I’m not talking about the marketing labels that promote “All Natural”, “Natural Flavors”, or just “Natural”. When you see these, put it down and walk away. Wood is natural but do you want to grind it up and put it in shredded cheese so it won’t clump? Natural Flavors might be castoreum, which is a substance that’s emitted from the castor sacs within the beaver’s anus. For a beaver, this slimy brown substance is used to mark its territory, but for us humans, it’s used as an additive that is often labeled as “natural flavoring” in the foods we eat – vanilla, strawberry and raspberry probably being the most common. BUT, I’m talking about what grows in the ground or is picked from a tree.
  6. Learn the truth about FAT. There is a big deception going on about fats. There are “healthy” fats and “Unhealthy” fats. There are still a lot of pretty smart folks who are confused. Our bodies need fat. Every cell of our body is largely made up of lipid (fat) and can be as high as 80% in some cells. Fats are an important part of a healthy diet: They provide essential fatty acids, keep our skin soft, deliver fat-soluble vitamins, and are a great source of energizing fuel. That is why too low of cholesterol is dangerous. But it’s easy to get confused about good fats vs. bad fats, how much fat we should eat, how to avoid artery-clogging trans fats, and the role omega-3 fatty acids play in heart health. So called healthy experts claim butter & coconut oil and not good for you but that Canola is- REALLY? Read about Canola/rancid oils. There is nothing wrong with eating healthy fats, just not too much.
  7. Supplements- The undeniable truth is that processed, synthetic supplements don’t work. You are wasting your money. The only supplements that have value are whole-food supplements. You have to be careful because even the word “whole-food” is being misused. Some companies will put a little whole-food in their “synthetic” concoction and call it whole-food when it’s mostly synthetic. Know your supplier and you may find a health care professional is a better source than the big name chains or health food stores.
